The Pekingese (also spelled Pekinese) is a breed of toy dog, originating in China. The breed was favored by royalty of the Chinese Imperial court as both a lap dog and companion dog, and its name refers to the city of Peking (Beijing) where the Forbidden City is located.

北京犬被毛较长，呈白、黄、棕等色；腿短，身体结构紧凑；头面部宽扁，眼大而圆，鼻吻部较短且向上仰；双耳多毛，折叠下垂贴于头部两侧；前大后小的躯干和颈部的长毛使其形似一只小雄狮。它们表现欲强，具有聪敏、活泼，爱与人亲热嬉闹的特性。
